Built for Business

Built for Business is a monthly networking for established construction, trade and built-environment businesses.

It brings together people who understand the realities of running and growing a business in the sector, from managing people and protecting margins to improving systems, winning better work and planning for the future.

Whether you run a trade business, construction company or provide specialist services to the sector, these meet-ups are about helping you build a stronger, more profitable business without it taking over your life.

Conversations that matter

Every meeting focuses on a different issue, opportunity or challenge facing businesses across construction, trades and the built environment.

You might hear from an expert about changes affecting the industry, learn how another business has tackled a familiar problem or have a straight-talking conversation with other owners about what is working, and what is not.

Topics may include:

  • Finding, developing and keeping good people.
  • Winning better work and protecting your margins.
  • Using AI and technology effectively.
  • Leadership and decision-making.
  • Contracts and commercial risk.
  • Improving systems, processes and capacity.
  • Succession and planning for the future.
  • Managing the pressures of running a growing business.

And sometimes, we will talk about the numbers too, because cashflow, pricing and profitability matter when you are deciding what to do next. But Built for Business is not an accountancy meeting. Financial performance is one part of a much wider conversation about building and running a successful business.

Who it's for

Built for Business is for owners and leaders of established construction, trade and built-environment businesses turning over £350,000 or more.

The turnover threshold helps to create a room of people dealing with a similar level of challenge. The questions that arise for businesses at this stage often go beyond winning the next job, and you may be faced with more strategic challenges:

  • People, recruitment and leadership.
  • Margins, pricing and cash flow.
  • Capacity, systems and processes.
  • Contracts and risk.
  • Sustainable growth and succession.

The threshold sets the level, but attitude matters too. Members should be willing to contribute, share their experience and help others, not simply turn up to sell to the room.

Connect, Solve, Learn and Grow

Built for Business is built with four goals for our members in mind:

Connect

Build valuable relationships with other established business owners and trusted specialists.

Over time, those relationships may lead to useful introductions, collaboration or shared opportunities. The focus, however, is on trust and genuine connection rather than collecting business cards or making forced referrals.

Solve

Bring real business challenges into the room and draw on the experience of people who understand your world.

You should be able to ask:

“This is what I’m struggling with. Has anyone dealt with this before?”

The aim is to share practical ideas, different perspectives and possible solutions.

Learn

Hear from carefully selected speakers and contributors on subjects that genuinely affect construction, trade and built-environment businesses.

Topics may cover people, profitability, contracts, technology, funding, health and safety, leadership, succession, changing market conditions and more.

Grow

Take away knowledge, ideas and connections that help you build a stronger, more profitable and more resilient business.

Everyone should leave each meeting with something useful to put into practice – whether that is a new approach, a solution to a current problem, a valuable introduction or a next step that’s become clearer for them.

Built around your working day

We know that when you have sites to manage, jobs to deliver, customers to look after and a team relying on you, getting away from site or being out of the office during the day is not always realistic. That is why we’ve deliberately designed Built for Business around the realities of the sector with our meet-ups before or after the working day, in relaxed local venues across Bedfordshire.

Built for Business meets once a month, with each session lasting approximately two hours.

The community will initially be limited to around 15–25 members so that there is time for meaningful conversation and everyone has the opportunity to contribute.

A typical meeting may include:

  • Informal relationship building.
  • A short market or business update.
  • A member-led challenge or discussion.
  • An expert speaker or practical session.
  • Time to ask for specific introductions, knowledge or support.

An early breakfast, or a beer and curry night – Built for Business is held in places where you can have a proper conversation, and meet people who understand the pressures you are under. We want you to leave with something useful to put into practice, or a new contact who will be of value to you.

More than another networking group

Built for Business is for people who want to build better businesses, together.

It is not a sales pitch, a referral-swapping exercise or a place to collect as many contacts as possible. It is a business-growth community focused on the real opportunities and challenges involved in running a construction, trade or built-environment business.

You don’t need to know all the answers about the future of your business. Just come prepared to talk openly, learn from people who understand your sector and take away a few ideas and connections that could make running your business that little bit easier.

Beansprout Consultancy is the founding partner and facilitator, but Built for Business has its own identity and purpose. The community is designed to develop its own reputation as a trusted place for established businesses to connect, learn and make real progress towards building the future you want.
